This is probably one of the most innovative urgent cares I've ever been in. One of their best features is that a patient has the ability to schedule their own appointments and check-ins via the internet or phone. It cuts down on filling out long patient forms. This is also a very clean facility. Water fountain and bathrooms are available, but only for a single individual at once.

I am writing to formally file a complaint regarding my experience at the American Family Care location in Athens, Alabama on Friday, February 13th at 6:00 PM. I arrived for my appointment feeling unwell, experiencing bladder pain, nausea, and back discomfort. I checked in online from my car prior to entering the building. When I approached the front desk, I informed the staff member (who identified herself as Jennifer) that I was there to check in. She instructed me to scan a QR code, despite my explaining that I had already completed the check-in process online. While I was attempting to clarify this, she answered the phone mid-conversation and continued speaking on the phone rather than assisting me. I found this dismissive and unprofessional. I felt ignored while standing directly in front of her. After waiting, I was later called back to the desk. When I addressed the fact that answering the phone while assisting a patient is discourteous, her response was defensive, accompanied by visible attitude, including eye rolling and a dismissive tone. When I asked for the manager, she stated that she was the manager. Your posted mission statement promises a kind and caring environment while respecting patients. My experience did not reflect that standard. Patients seeking medical care are often in pain or distress, and professionalism at the front desk sets the tone for the entire visit. I am requesting that this matter be reviewed to ensure that patients are treated with courtesy and respect moving forward. Sincerely,
Alexis Moore

AFC, in Athens, AL seems to be efficiently run with friendly, smiling faces everywhere. For my first experience with AFC, I seem to have picked an extremely busy day. Despite being so busy, the CNP took the time to answer my questions and made me feel as if she had all the time in the world to spend with me. I will undoubtedly recommend Athens Pharmacy to others.

I was just in to be seen for bleeding during very early pregnancy. Upon going back, the women that checked my blood pressure and asked what I was in for was nice and she did a good job.
I was then instructed to take a urine test and then go to the exam room myself. I waited in there for over a half hour and when the doctor finally showed up she didn’t knock on the door at all, just barged right in. Her first question to me came off rude, no actual chart in her hand, just a piece of mail it looked like with a bunch of scribbles written on it. She asked me how many times I had been pregnant while leaning up against the counter. Nothing about my urine sample, which was negative there (not surprised, that was my 3rd urine sample for the day).
Then went on to say that they could do the blood draw, but it could take 3 days for results and “you’d be dead by then” came out of her mouth. I know how serious it is, that’s why I’m getting seen in the first place.
Told me she’s worked in the field for over 30 years and they don’t have an ultrasound there to rule out ectopic. Even though the lady at the front desk never mentioned that, she only told me they didn’t have an x-ray machine. So I’m assuming the doctor is lying at this point just because the lobby is full of people and her delivery on everything she told me was absolutely ridiculous. No compassion, no asking how my pain is, where it is, if it’s radiating, didn’t check me out at all.
Told me I needed to go to the ER instead. Which is expensive, which is why I was at Urgent Care to begin with.
She came back with a transfer paper, and I was speaking with her about what the lady at the desk had told me about them not having an x-ray but nothing about an ultrasound and she had to bring up her work history again while following me down the hallway while I was leaving to let me know that she’s never seen an ultrasound at an urgent care facility. This whole thing could have been handled much better from the get go. Example “your urine sample was negative, but since we do not have an ultrasound here I would need to transfer you to the ER to rule out an ectopic” but no, it was constantly rude interaction with me like I didn’t know what I was talking about. I also asked if pain would come and go or if it would be constant and she basically said it didn’t matter haha.
So on the way to the ER I go to hopefully get some real answers from more competent doctors.

Excellent pt care! My nurse practitioner was thorough with her assessment listened to my concerns educated me regarding my illness and gave me practical advice for follow up care. I have confidence in her as my caregiver and would recommend this facility to anyone!
