I moved to Fernandina Beach 12 years ago. Was very happy to learn that Nassau Health Food was on the Island. The store has changed over the past years, but they always seem to be improving. The store owners seem to be hands on. This is a smaller store but perfect for Our Island. If visiting, you will find it warm and relaxing. They are currently doing some re-modeling to make even more improvements. They expanded The Amelia Fresh Cafe. You are able to eat inside or outdoors. They have a good selection of organic fruits and vegetables. They have spices and herbs. You can order a sandwich made fresh. The Chefs are very good. If you need general type of vitamins and health drinks, they have it. I recommend this store, you will not leave the store empty handed.

Lived here for 26 years but have only recently started frequenting Nassau Health Foods as I'm trying to switch to a mostly whole food plant based diet. Staff is always helpful and friendly. Only place in the county you can find Passion fruit, which I'd never heard of before but now use it in smoothies and love the flavor. Bought two bags yesterday.

Upon entering the establishment (that was busy), a manger or employee by the name TJ yelled from across the building asking me if my dog was a service dog.🐕‍🦺 when I replied with a “yes” he then proceeded to say “if your service dog barks or jumps you will be asked to leave”. Causing a huge spike in my heart rate; my blood to drain from my face and hands. As I walked to get the 3 items I needed my beautiful, wonderful service dog, gave me my pitch warning that I would need to regulate so my medical conditions could regulate. As I was checking out, I communicated to TJ that his display of disrespect made my conditions worse and could have sent me to the hospital. He apologized and tried to argue to justify why he felt he could call me out in the crowded grocery store. Kindness and Understanding goes a lot farther than power. I feel like because of the way I dress and carry myself I was profiled as someone who wouldn’t need a service animal. I’m not sure if there are other health food stores on the island, but I do know that TJ, who might be a manger, made me extremely uncomfortable and unsafe, due to my need for a service dog.
